Please confess to me [rebirth] 51

Chapter 51

***

Although his accident had been dangerous, Su Hang recovered quickly. After only three days of observation, the doctor agreed to let him go home to recuperate.

Shen Xi arrived at the hospital early today to pick Su Hang up. She packed up Su Hang's things and ran around the hospital to go through the formalities for discharge. Su Hang tried to help her several times, but he was shut down by Shen Xi every time. Finally, he obediently sat down on a chair and watched his wife busy herself. Gradually, he felt his heart warm at the sight.

So this was what it felt like to be taken care of and cherished.

"Lower your head a little."Shen Xi suddenly walked towards Su Hang and told him.

Su Hang obediently bowed his head.

Shen Xi pulled out a black cap she had bought yesterday and gently helped Su Hang put it on. Afterward, she smiled and said: "Done."

Su Hang felt the hat on his head, a little disappointed. "So it was a hat..."

"What did you think it'd be?" Shen Xi looked at him with a wry smile.

"Nothing." Su Hang touched the hat once more. "It's warm."

"Let's go then." Shen Xi picked up the bag by her feet. She carried the bag with one hand and wrapped an arm around Su Hang, then walked out of the hospital together.

When they arrived at the parking lot, Shen Xi helped open the passenger door for Su Hang first. Su Hang was a little bewildered, seemingly unable to adapt to this sudden role reversal.

"Get in the car." Shen Xi urged.

"Oh." Su Hang obediently entered the car with a stupid expression, feeling weirdly satisfied as he watched Shen Xi busy herself.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Shen Xi sat on the driver's seat and was about to start the car, but then she noticed that the man next to her was staring. His eyes looked a little conflicted.

"If I had known that getting hospitalized would get me such good treatment, I would've gone to the hospital the day after our wedding."

"Hm. But instead, a certain someone went on a business trip." Shen Xi raised a brow.

"I was wrong." Su Hang had once thought that he was being considerate, but he now understood that he acted like a total idiot.

Seeing him seriously confessing to his mistake, Shen Xi couldn't help but smile. She raised a finger and hooked it, signaling him to come closer. Once Su Hang was near, Shen Xi kissed his lips without warning. Then, she looked up to look at his astonished eyes and said: "When I asked you to bow down, were you expecting a kiss?"

"I..." Su Hang blinked, and his ears were turning red. He stammered: "I...just now, I didn't react on time. Can you..do that one more time?"

Shen Xi chuckled, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed him again. This time, Su Hang reacted and kissed back. After kissing his wife for more than ten minutes, Shen Xi had to wait a while as her legs had become too soft to properly drive.

So when they finally arrived at the Shen family home, it was half an hour later than scheduled.

Before getting off the car, Shen Xi looked at her slightly swollen lips at the rearview mirror. She couldn't help but complain: "How am I going to explain this to my parents, ah?"

Su Hang could only let himself get scolded. This was the first time his wife was being so enthusiastic, ah. How could he hold back.

The day of Su Hang's discharge happened to coincide with New Year's eve. Shen Xi and Su Hang had previously agreed to stay at the Shen family home during the New Year's holiday because on the one hand, they could spend the spring festival with their parents and on the other hand, there would be attendants who could take care of them while Su Hang recuperated.

Because there was a huge New Year's eve dinner planned for tonight, lunch was relatively simpler. After lunch, Shen Xi initially wanted Su Hang to take a nap, but Su Hang told her that he had laid in bed for days at the hospital and wasn't feeling all that sleepy. So Shen Xi decided to take Su Hang on a tour around the villa.

"That swing was specially made by my dad when I was a child. It's been there for more than 20 years." Shen Xi took Su Hang to the courtyard and pointed towards the swing she often played when she was young. "When the swing was built, I pestered my dad to push me every day. I wouldn't allow anyone else to do it. At the time, I often made my dad late for work. Most of his morning meetings would even be delayed for more than an hour because of me. My mom still teases me about it from time to time."

Su Hang imagined a young four or five-year-old Shen Xi, wearing a princess skirt and smiling happily as she sat on the swing. Su Hang felt his heart immediately melt.

"I'll push you later." Su Hang told her.

"I'm too old to play swings. I have been for a long time." Shen Xi shook her head.

"Oh." Su Hang lowered his head, looking somewhat bereft.

Shen Xi couldn't stand Su Hang's listless appearance and after some thought, turned around and sat on the swing. Isn't it just a swing? If Su Hang wanted to push her, then let her push, ah.

"Well, It's good to play once in a while." Shen Xi commented.

As soon as she said this, Su Hang's eyes brightened. He walked behind Shen Xi and gently pushed her. Looking at his swaying wife, Su Hang felt content.

At first, Shen Xi had just been trying to humor Su Hang. However, after swinging for a while, she gradually felt a childlike interest. Every time the swing met Su Hang, Shen Xi would turn her head and smile sweetly at her husband.

"See how happy they are?" At the balcony on the second floor, Mother Shen chatted with Father Shen, a cup of coffee in her hands.

"That boy is lucky to meet our Xiao Xi." Father Shen haughtily replied.

"Alright, you can stop pretending already, ah. You think I don't know how much you secretly appreciate Su Hang? Acting like a face isn't a face and a nose isn't a nose..." Mother Shen directly exposed her husband.

Father Shen wanted to be kind to Su Hang, but when he saw his daughter's puffy mouth at lunch, he couldn't calm down. He knew that the couple was still young, but this was his daughter, ah!

"It hasn't been easy for Su Hang. You shouldn't be too strict with him in the future, alright?" Mother Shen told him.

"I know." Father Shen thought back to how Su Hang had such a horrible father like Su BaiNian and huffed.

Mother Shen smiled. She knew that her husband was just a little sour that his daughter's attentions were now divided. But, well, it doesn't matter. Mother Shen was simply waiting for a granddaughter, ah.

On the other side, Shen Xi brought Su Hang to Mother Shen's glass greenhouse. Shen Xi explained: "This greenhouse was a gift my father gave to my mother. All the flowers here are my mom's favorites. Since her health isn't the best, she doesn't get to go outside often and spends her time here instead. As I child, I spent a lot of time here too."

Walking through the Shen family courtyard, Su Hang suddenly felt like their own courtyard at home wasn't up to standards. He turned to Shen Xi and promised: "When we go back, I'll build you a proper greenhouse too."

"Why? You want to follow in my dad's footsteps?" Shen Xi raised a brow.

"Yes." Su Hang solemnly nodded. "Not just to follow in his footsteps, but to surpass him. When we're old, I hope our children will be able to tell their lovers stories about their parents. Just like what you're doing now."

Shen Xi suddenly stopped. She looked at the tall man next to her and felt the last tiny gap in her heart fill up. Su Hang had just spoken the most touching and loving words she had ever heard.

"Hey, there's a piano." Su Hang looked at the piano in the greenhouse. As he walked closer, he noticed a picture frame sitting on top. Su Hang picked it up and said: "This is you...during your third grade of primary school?"

Shen Xi shifted closer to him and looked at the photo. It was taken after she had passed the piano grade test for the first time. It really was taken during the third grade. If it wasn't for this piano test, Shen Xi would've found it hard to remember what year the photo had been taken.

"How did you know?" Shen Xi asked.

"Because of this." Su Hang pointed to the bow on little Shen Xi's hair. "You loved this bow when you were in third grade. You wore it to school every day."

"How did you know I wore it every day?" Shen Xi asked.

"Cough..." It was because I waited for you by the school gates every day that year, ah.

But Su Hang couldn't say that, so he replied: "I picked up plastic bottles near your school at the time. I often saw you."

"I see. I don't remember." Shen Xi smiled and didn't pursue the matter.

Su Hang let out a sigh of relief in his heart.

"What's this?" Su Hang picked up something else that had been placed on top of the piano. It was a small, inconspicuous wooden box. When Su Hang opened it, a burst of soft music suddenly played. It turned out to be a music box.

"My mother recorded my first ever recital and made a music box out of it." Shen Xi explained.

"You played this?" Su Hang was surprised. "It's really nice."

"It's a great piece for dancing." Shen Xi smiled at Su Hang. "Mr. Su, will you allow your wife to have this dance with you?"

"Ah.." Su Hang was stunned, then grew flustered. "You know that I..I can't dance."

"It doesn't matter." Shen Xi took the music box from his hands and placed it back onto the piano. "I'll teach you."

Su Hang could never deny his wife anything, so he could only bite the bullet and be brave. He carefully followed Shen Xi's steps, fearing that he would accidentally step on her foot if he didn't pay attention. Maybe it was because of Shen Xi's intimate knowledge of the song or maybe because he already had experience, but even someone like Su hang gradually found the rhythm. Slowly, the couple danced, surrounded by warmth and spring flowers.

After the New Year's eve dinner, Su Hang received a lot of new years greetings. Maybe because he was in an incredibly good mood, but Su Hang took his phone and replied to every friend, business partner, and subordinate who sent him new years greetings. This used to be one of the things he hated doing the most.

In the past 20 years, Su Hang would turn off his cell phone and watch movies alone at home during new year's day. He didn't even dare turn the TV on, because every single channel would be filled with celebrations. The more it contrasted with his situation, the more obvious the loneliness and emptiness in his heart would be.

Su Hang hated it.

But this year, he was with Shen Xi and Shen Xi's parents. Watching the dull gala party on the TV, Su Hang didn't feel the least bit lonely.

"It's already past midnight. Everyone can rest." As soon as the clock past midnight, Father Shen announced this.

Mother Shen was already quite tired, so she turned to Su Hang and said: "If you get up early tomorrow, it'll mean you'll have good days for the rest of the year. You should quickly go rest."

Su Hang hurriedly stood up and replied: "Yes."

Father Shen helped the sleepy Mother Shen to their room.

"Mom seems quite tired. She should've gone to bed earlier." Su Hang commented to Shen Xi.

"Mom said she wanted to stay up and celebrate the new year with you." Shen Xi replied.

"Stay up?" Su Hang was stunned.

"It's past midnight, so it's officially the new year." Shen Xi looked at Su Hang and smiled. "Husband, happy new year!"

There was no need for fireworks, or party, or bustle. All you needed was a family to eat and watch the new year's gala with, and then someone to tell you to get up early tomorrow. All you need is someone to smile and say happy new year.

Then, there won't be any loneliness in your heart.
