Please confess to me [rebirth] 42

Chapter 42

***

After listening to Su Hang's analysis of her coffee shops last night, Shen Xi sorted out the necessary information and went to the bank to consult about the loan in the afternoon. After a consultation, Shen Xi found that everything was as Su Hang had told her and that the possibility of a loan was quite high.

So Shen Xi came out of the bank in a good mood. When she looked at the time, she found that it was almost 5:00 p.m. Seeing that the Su company building wasn't far from here and that a certain someone was about to leave for work, Shen Xi planned on picking Su Hang up and giving him a surprise.

"Hello, how can I help...Madam!" The little lady at the front desk habitually started her routine, but when she saw the person in front of her, she couldn't help but be shocked.

"You know me?" This was Shen Xi's first visit to the Su company building, so she hadn't expected anyone to recognize her.

"Of course! When you married out president, every major newspaper reported on it. Are you here to see the president?" The young girl politely asked.

"Yes." Shen Xi smiled. "What floor is he on?"

"The president's office is on the top floor; you can go straight up from there." The young woman at the front desk pointed towards the elevator.

"Alright, thank you." Shen Xi nodded then walked towards the elevator.

After Shen Xi left, the ladies operating the front desk couldn't help but exclaim: "Wow, the president's wife is so beautiful and charming!"

"Quick, call the secretarial department!" Another young woman said.

By the time Shen Xi walked out of the elevator, Fang Yu was already at the door waiting for her.

"Madam." Fang Yu smiled.

Shen Xi was surprised, but soon figured that the front desk notified him of her arrival. Amused, she said: "Secretary Fang, I think we're familiar enough with each other to not need such formalities."

"That's not good. If the president knew that I was neglecting his wife, he would skin me alive." Fang Yu made a throat-slitting gesture.

"Pfft..." Shen Xi laughed. "Is he in the office?"

"The president is in a meeting on the twelfth floor, but it should be wrapping up in a minute. Please take a seat in the office first." Fang Yu led Shen Xi into the office as he spoke.

When she entered the office, Shen Xi looked at the furnishings and found that apart from the more spacious room, it didn't seem to be much different from Su Hang's study at home. Shen Xi glanced at his desk and found a picture frame. Curious, she couldn't help but walk over and turn the photo frame.

When she saw the two familiar silhouettes on the photo, Shen Xi had to smile.

"Madam, please have some coffee." Fang Yu came back into the office with a cup.

Shen Xi turned around and saw Fang Yu placing a cup of coffee on the coffee table next to the sofa. She went over, smelled the coffee, and said: "Oh, what wonderful coffee."

"That's good." Fang Yu replied.

"If you have such good coffee already, then why do you always order in the cat cafe?" Shen Xi asked.

"That..." Fang Yu paused, then frankly told her: "No matter how good the coffee, if the Boss doesn't like it, then.."

"He's...he only drinks the coffee in my store?" Shen Xi raised a brow.

"Always." Fang Yu testified. "Since your coffee shop opened, Boss never drunk coffee from anywhere else. In fact, we actually saved quite a bit in our budget."

"Pfft..." Shen Xi laughed. Then, with a smile, she waved him off. "Secretary Fang, please go ahead with your work. You must be busy."

Secretary Fang nodded, then turned to leave. However, Shen Xi stopped him just as he was about to go through the door.

"Don't tell Su Hang that I'm here." Shen Xi wanted to surprise him.

Fang Yu understood and nodded at Shen Xi. Then, he left, closing the office door as he did so.

Shen Xi drank the coffee as she looked down on the picture frame. This particular photo really was beautiful. It had a certain feeling of youth, despite having two adults as its subject. Well, it was their first date.

Shen Xi recalled that sweet moment while holding the picture frame. She then sat on the boss' chair, imagined the most prominent place the photo could be seen, then placed the frame on that position. After a while, Shen Xi thought to get out of the chair, but she inadvertently noticed something extremely out of place in this modern office.

It was a childish and slightly shabby rabbit doll. Shen Xi couldn't help but reach for it.

What is this doll?

"It was given to him by someone he liked. He took it with him for more than 20 years, right up until he got married."

Shen Xi suddenly remembered the words Li QingYuan said to her moments before she was reborn. Shen Xi didn't forget this sentence, but there were too many things happening after her rebirth that she put the doll at the back of her mind. But now, she saw this rabbit doll again.

Without a doubt, the girl Su Hang liked all this time was her. So it meant that she was the one who gave him this doll? More than 20 years ago?

Shen Xi held the very common-looking doll in her hands and carefully inspected it. She vaguely thought it looked familiar, but she just couldn't remember when she gave it to Su Hang. 20 years ago...they shouldn't have met that far back...

Su Hang stepped out of the elevator and looked down at his watch. He handed a document to Fang Yu, who had stepped forward to greet him and said: "There's no big change in the KY case. You'll be responsible for following up on it."

"Yes." After receiving the documents, Fang Yu headed back towards his desk.

"Come with me." Su Hang called out to him as he pushed open his office door.

Fang Yu, who had been forcibly summoned, had to come over. Who knew that he could only take one step in the office before his Boss pushed him out.

Su Hang quickly stepped into the office and closed the door behind him.

Looking at the shut door that was millimeters from his nose, Fang Yu felt very depressed. When I want to leave, I have to stay. When I have to follow, I was driven out instead. Ah, it wasn't easy making money these days.

"Xiao Xi?" Su Hang was surprised to see the figure sitting behind his desk.

Shen Xi heard the sound of the door opening and turned around with the rabbit doll still in her hands. She looked at Su Hang, who was standing by the door and smiled. "Is your meeting over?"

"Why are you here?" Su Hang excitedly walked towards her.

"To pick you up from work." Shen Xi chuckled, then pointed to the picture frame on his desk. "Is saw this."

Although the two had already confessed their feelings towards each other, Su Hang still turned red whenever Shen Xi pointed out his infatuation towards her. "I-I can get off work now."

Another unexpected finding Shen Xi discovered in her rebirth was that Su Hang's outwardly cold appearance didn't match his soft gooey inside. He was easily embarrassed by the littlest things, ah.

"By the way, what's this?" Shen Xi raised the rabbit doll in her hand.

Su Hang was shocked, then looked at Shen Xi with expectation in his eyes. "...why are you asking about that?"

"You forgot to close your drawer, and I happened to see it. I thought it felt a little familiar when I touched it." Shen Xi answered, secretly observing Su Hang's expression as she did so.

"You find it familiar?" Su Hang was somewhat surprised.

"Un." Shen Xi nodded.

"Then...do you remember anything?" Su Hang looked excited.

"What are you thinking about? This thing..." Shen Xi was puzzled. "What exactly is my relationship with this rabbit doll?"

Su Hang's eyes darkened as he realized that Shen Xi didn't remember anything. "It's nothing. Let's go back home."

Shen Xi watched as Su Hang quietly leaned over to pick up his car keys that were on the table, then as he grabbed his bag. He looked like he fully intended to simply go home, and it made Shen Xi angry. Again, again. Why are you keeping quiet? Why aren't you speaking up?

"Su Hang!" Shen Xi yelled, fire in her heart.

Su Hang was startled at her sudden shout.

"How did you get this rabbit doll?" Shen Xi asked.

Su Hang didn't understand why Shen Xi suddenly got angry. He hesitated for a moment, but in the end, he told her the truth. "I got it from you."

"Me?" Shen Xi looked at the rabbit doll she was holding. "When?"

"the 21st of August, 1997." Su Hang was very specific.

On the 21st of August 1997...why was that date so familiar? I gave this to him? I was just over three years old in 1997.

"where did I give it to you?" Shen Xo asked.

"No.6 Hospital in S City." Su Hang mumbled.

Shen Xi stood up from the chair and looked at Su Hang in disbelief. "It was you? That big brother was you?"

Su Hang nodded his head, feeling somewhat guilty at Shen Xi's incredulous stare.

"Su Hang!" Shen Xi suddenly threw the rabbit doll at him. "Why didn't you say that earlier?!"

"I..." Su Hang fumbled to catch the rabbit doll, feeling lost. He didn't know why Shen Xi was so angry with him, and he didn't know how to explain.

"Why didn't you tell me last night?" Shen Xi rushed to Su Hang and asked him loudly.

Truthfully, Su Hang didn't really intend to hide it from her. He just never said anything because there had never been a good opportunity to tell her. Until yesterday, he didn't even know that Shen Xi was looking for the child that helped her all those years ago. It wasn't like he could just randomly blurt it out.

Last night, Su Hang found out that Shen Xi didn't remember anything about that time. The only thing she remembered was the bracelet that she had lost. So he had planned to talk to Shen Xi about it once the bracelet was found.

"I lost your bracelet years ago, so I planned on finding it first, then talking to you about it." Su Hang put down the rabbit doll and tried to take Shen Xi's hand.

But Shen Xi shook his hand off. She took a deep breath, her heart simmering in anger with no way of release.

"Because you didn't remember what happened, I wanted to talk to you only after I have everything sorted out." A panicked Su Hang tried to explain.

Shen Xi's heart felt stuffy. She knew that there wasn't anything wrong with Su Hang's reasoning, but she felt angry and incredibly frustrated. So frustrated, in fact, that she couldn't help but tear up.

"Xiao Xi?!" Seeing Shen Xi cry so suddenly, Su Hang got scared silly. "You...don't cry. It's my fault, it's all my fault."

Honestly, Su Hang didn't think he did anything wrong by attempting to resolve the matter first, then talking to Shen Xi about it. But after seeing Shen Xi cry, he panicked.

"No." Shen Xi suddenly told him. "This is my fault."

"I know you're always careful when it comes to me. I know that you often hold yourself back and keep silent. But I just thought you trusted me more than this." Shen Xi wryly smiled. "I thought I had done a good job showing you that I could be trusted, but it seems that it wasn't enough."

"Xiao Xi..." Su Hang didn't understand.

"Su Hang, do you know? I like you." Shen Xi suddenly said.

Su Hang, who had still been thinking of ways to appease his wife, was frightened by her sudden confession.

"I like you a lot more than you think." Shen Xi continued. "So, can you please trust me just a little bit more?"

"I..." Su Hang didn't feel like he didn't trust Shen Xi.

"Just like this situation. I don't need the so-called bracelet to believe you. You just need to tell me that you were that boy all those years ago who saved me, and I would've believed your words no matter what." Shen Xi told him. "Can you trust and believe me like this too?"

"I'm sorry!"

Su Hang finally understood. He shouldn't have tried to find evidence on his own first, because Shen Xi, his wife, already believed in him unconditionally.

The author has something to say:

Well...cough...this crab is too scared to look in the comments section after this chapter.

It's just impossible for the character Su Hang to run and tell Shen Xi that he was the person who saved her. What's more, Shen Xi didn't remember what happened back then.

Of course, we all know that there wasn't a need for any sort of evidence as they are husband and wife. This was what I wanted to express in this chapter. Su Hang had loved Shen Xi for many years, and Shen Xi knows this now. Because of this, she's willing to believe anything Su Hang tells her. But for Su Hang, Shen Xi had never told him that she liked him to his face before this chapter.
The actual start of their relationship was only just one month ago.

In fact, Su Hang doesn't feel any sense of security towards his relationship with Shen Xi. He can't read minds, so he doesn't know just how much Shen Xi likes him. Trust takes time. If they don't express themselves well, it'll be a problem in the future. This crab knows that their writing isn't the best, but this crab is working hard, ah.

This is why this chapter is necessary, and Shen Xi expressing her frustration was necessary. She explained to him her feelings, and Su Hang understood. Yay! Communication ftw.

  3. Finally!!! I feel like crying with Shen Xi as well. I feel that frustration a lot, especially when you know that you're both at fault for the lack of communication but that all the misunderstanding could have been solved if one just learned to open up. In this case, I'd say Shen Xi had the most awesome character growth here. I'm sure Su Hang will follow as well.

    Thanks for the update.

  4. The amount of angst and tenderness in this novel is bliss 😌

  5. This novel is so good and I can't help by sigh. It's good. The realization is good. The explanation is good. I was frustrated how Su Hang wasn't assertive and felt like he didn't do anything wrong because we have Shen Xi's perspective more than his. To him it's only been a few years but to us and Shen Xi it's been longer.

  6. Good! Finally a formal couple who actually communicate, rather than for the drama to be dragged for a few chapters before they could open their mouths to explain. I hope I can do the same when I'm married.

  7. To be honest, if not for the author's note; I probably would've judged Su Hang again.
It's just he's too cute and needs to be protected but Shen Xi lost an entire lifetime because he couldn't win her (not his fault, she was too guarded)

Bless the two & thanks for the chapter

  11. Aw finally. I was so anxious. I thought someone would pretend to be Shen xi’s savior even before Su hang could tell the truth. Then so much drama and jealousy along the way that would drag the story for a couple of chapters before they clear up the misunderstanding.
