Slowly Falling For Changkong 66

Wei YiChen

***

As A City gradually began to be enveloped by the darkness of the night, QingNan street's day officially began.

After Qian Liang and his lackeys were arrested, their bar was shut down and was replaced by another better, more reputable establishment. When this new store opened, Ah Mao brought some people over to congratulate the new owner.

"Ah." Ah Mao, who was sitting on a sofa, threw a dart towards the target on the opposite wall but missed.

After his brother Chen left, he had been feeling listless, as if something was missing in his life. He couldn't even throw darts as accurately as before, ah.

Fortunately, the bar hadn't been affected by his departure. If ever brother Chen decided to come by and inspect the store, Ah Mao was happy to say that he could still show satisfactory profit results.

Just as Ah Mao was thinking this, a waiter ran into the room, yelling that there were some guests outside that were being rowdy. The waited was afraid that these people would make trouble in the bar.

Ah Mao stood up and called his brothers. "Let's go out and see."

There were indeed two male customers drinking, surrounded by a circle of people watching them in excitement. These two guests were regular customers. They usually didn't come into contact with each other, but somehow, they suddenly ended up drinking together tonight.

"What's the matter?" Ah Mao whispered to the waiter beside him.

The waiter replied: "It's because of LuLu again."

Ah Mao: "..."

LuLu had left a shadow in Ah Mao's young heart. Back then, it was because of this woman that Zhu Bing smashed Xu Lian's shop, causing his brother Chen to fight with Zhu Bing.

"Both of them are pursuing LuLu. LuLu said she'll go out with the winner of this drinking game."

Ah Mao felt quite depressed when he heard this. This LuLu, ah, isn't she just a little prettier than average? Why are these men so shallow?

He walked towards the middle of the circle and tried to persuade the two customers. "You two, drink slowly, ah. Drinking too much is bad for you."

The two men were already pretty drunk, so they didn't heed Ah Mao's words and pushed him away.

Ah Mao stumbled back. He didn't retaliate, as they were guests after all. Instead, he glanced towards one of his brothers. He would try to persuade them once more, and if they still didn't comply, would simply throw the two men out.

"How about this, if you agree to come back another day, I'll give you a 10% discount to tonight's tab."

"What are you doing? You think we can't afford some cheap drinks? Who wants your discount!"

"Yeah, get out of here! Don't get in the way of our drinking, ah! I'm trying to win here!"

Ah Mao frowned, then looked towards LuLu, who was sitting on the side. Holding a cocktail in one hand, she seemed to be watching the situation with no intention of stopping it.

Ah Mao was a little upset with her and silently vowed not to let this woman into the bar again.

Suddenly, a man appeared and picked up a glass of alcohol on the two customers' table. He gulped it down, then slammed the empty glass back onto the table. "Alright, that's it for tonight."

The two customers were initially dissatisfied with this random third party. But when they raised their heads, they realized that the man was Wei YiChen. The two customers immediately changed their tune. "Alright, since boss Wei says so, we'll leave it here."

"I'll see you again next time. Whoever doesn't show up is a chicken!"

Wei YiChen glanced at a nearby waiter, who promptly helped the two customers up. Then, Wei YiChen walked up to Ah Mao, who was staring at him blankly.

Wei YiChen smiled. "What? After not seeing each other in a month, you can't recognize me anymore?"

Ah Mao finally came back to his senses and excitedly hugged Wei YiChen. "Brother Chen! You...why are you wearing a suit?! I really didn't recognize you for a second there!"

When Ah Mao first met Wei YiChen, he had already transformed into a punk social butterfly. So this was actually the first time Ah Mao had seen Wei YiChen in a suit.

Wei YiChen went to the bar and leaned at the counter to ask for some alcohol. He told Ah Mao: "I just finished work in the company. I'm too lazy to go home and change, so I just went here like this."

"The company?" Ah Mao was stunned again. It seems that brother Chen is planning to inherit his family's company! Ah Mao asked to make sure: "Brother Chen, you've been to your family's company recently?"

"Yeah." Wei YiChen took a sip of alcohol, then sighed. "In the end, it's still more comfortable here."

"If you don't like it in the company, then come back! Everyone misses you so much..."

Wei YiChen put down his glass then patted Ah Mao on the shoulder. "It's a pity that people can't live on comfort."

"..." It seems that brother Chen has changed after working in the company. He's become so philosophical.

Suddenly, someone approached them, their strong perfume filling the air. "Wei YiChen, you've come back?"

It was LuLu.

Ah Mao glanced at her low neckline dress and clicked his tongue. This kind of weapon might bewitch him, but his brother isn't weak!

As expected, Wei YiChen gave her a nochalant glance, then said: "Next time you provoke the customers again, you'll no longer be welcome here."

LuLu laughed, then leaned towards him. "I just told them that whoever wins will get to go out with me. Well, since you drank the last glass, I'll follow you tonight."

"No thanks, I wouldn't be able to stand you for that long." Wei YiChen stood up and told Ah Mao: "I'm going to see Sister QianMan. I'll come back later."

"Alright."

"Brother Chen..." LuLu called out, wanting to follow him, but was stopped by Ah Mao. Intentionally, or maybe unintentionally, Ah Mao gave LuLu a roguish smile and said: "Or I can accompany you tonight?"

LuLu raised a brow, then walked away.

While LuLu and Ah Mao were talking, Wei YiChen had already slipped away. He left the bar and went straight to HUG.

HUG's business was as good as ever. Wei YiChen took his suit jacket, draped it over his hand, then unbuttoned the two top buttons of his dress shirt. Finally, he felt comfortable.

Wei YiChen looked astound the place, then sat on an empty seat at the bar.

Fang QiuYun noticed someone approach and raised her head to greet them. When she saw that Wei YiChen was sitting opposite her, she froze for a moment, then smiled. "You're quite dressed up..."

"Handsome, aren't I?" Wei YiChen said without embarrassment.

Fang QiuYun snorted, then asked: "What do you want to drink?"

Wei YiChen replied: "Orange juice."

Fang QiuYun blinked in surprise but nevertheless poured him a glass of juice. "Are you working in your family's company now?'

"Nn." Wei YiChen sipped his juice after briefly responding.

Fang QiuYun placed her elbows on top of the bar and tilted her head. "Are you not singing any more?"

Whenever Wei YiChen was in a good mood, he would sing at the karaoke stage. Almost everyone in QingNan street knew this. In fact, it was his singing that made LuLu want him. Of course, this also led to all the troublesome things that happened after.

Wei YiChen looked at Fang QiuYun, then smiled. "Why, have you heard me sing before?"

Fang QiuYun replied: "I've heard it once before."

"Oh? What do you think?"

Fang QiuYun thought for a while. She wasn't particularly passionate about music. At most, she was a layman. "It's hard for me to tell whether you're good at singing or not. All I know that you have the sexiest singing voice I have ever heard."

Wei YiChen started, obviously not expecting her to say such things. However, he soon recovered and gave her a smirk. "I'm a lot more sexy in bed."

Fang QiuYun: "..."

Zuo QianMan, who just entertained a guest, came over with a wine glass in hand. She touched glasses with Wei YiChen, then said: 'My, what a rare guest."

Wei YiChen smiled. "Don't say that, sister QianMan. I specially came by today to see you, after all."

"See me?" Zuo QianMan glanced towards Fang QiuYun. She sipped at her wine, then said: "This wine-lover's heart isn't into his cup, ah."

(T/N: wine-lover's heart is not in the cup (idiom); a drinker not really interested in alcohol / having an ulterior motive / to have other things in mind / with an ax to grind / accomplishing something besides what one set out to do )

Fang QiuYun pretended not to hear her, and Wei YiChen pretended not to understand. Zuo QianMan didn't continue teasing the two and instead changed the subject. "Wei YiChen, have you and your father reconciled?"

Wei YiChen raised a brow. "Sort of. I recently had an epiphany. I figured, when I take over the company and become my own master, can't I just do whatever I want then?"

Zuo QianMan smiled and tapped her glass against Wei YiChen's orange juice again. "I wish you success."

After a few more words, Zuo QianMan moved away to greet other customers. Wei YiChen finished his orange juice, paid for his drink, then stood up. "Then, I'll be going first."

"Wait," Fang QiuYun stopped him and gave his money back. "I'm not accepting this."

Wi YiChen looked at her, not speaking.

Fang QiuYun continued: "Recently, I wanted to learn how to play guitar. You can pay me back with some guitar lessons instead."

Wei YiChen chuckled. "You want me to teach you how to play guitar in exchange for a glass of orange juice?"

"You can order a few more glasses next time."

Wei YiChen put his right hand in his trouser pocket and took back his money with his left. After standing there for a few seconds with a smile, he replied: "Deal."

The author has something to say:

Thank you for your company these past few months~
See you next time!

And that's officially the end! Thank you very much for reading this on my website. Thank you for the people who followed this story; you were the ones that kept me going!

I'd also like to thank the wonderful people who donated to my ko-fi 😊

Overall, I liked this novel. I loved the dynamic between the two leads and enjoyed their steamy scenes, haha. However, I definitely enjoyed the first half more than the second half. I think once the author dropped the storyline about Xiang ChangKong's mother, the story stagnated. But nevertheless, it was still good for me since I don't see this kind of couple in Chinese novels much.

Agree, the build up, the characters and their development in the first half is really good so it's a pity the second half of the story didn't quite meet my expectation :(

Anyway, it's still a good read and I look forward to read more of your translations! Have a great day!

  10. Thanks for the translation. I agree with you. The draw for me aside from the couple is that it comes as laid back to me and is a welcome rest from reading dramatic stories.

I really really liked our FL, and so wish we had more FLs like this. Also really liked the dynamic between FL and ML and it was such a pleasant change not to have an ML who was omnipotent and the most perfect creature God has ever made 🙄
