Rebirth on the Doors to the Civil Affairs Bureau
Chapter 52: I Met You First

***

Large flower markets were generally located in the more remote parts of the city. Early this morning, Xia Feng and Yu Dong drove through the city, all the way to a suburban place full of greenery.

Yu Dong opened her window, letting the wind blow her long hair, her face full of joy and eyes bright.

"Let's park over there." Yu Dong pointed towards a small parking lot nearby.

Xia Feng looked towards the lot and was puzzled: "The flower market is still a while away though."

"We can walk." Yu Dong smiled. "The weather is really good today."

At this Xia Feng nodded and lowered the car's speed, stopping on a shaded spot.

A sunny and bright spring day would always make a person happy, even if they just sit outside in a daze, it would still be enjoyable.

Xia Feng held Yu Dong's hand as they walked through the shade of a swaying tree, the sunlight peeking through the gaps of the verdant leaves, enhancing Yu Dong's lovely smile.

"It's been a long while since I came out like this." The weather was wonderful, the wife was happy, Xia Feng felt like he was flying.

"Did you miss the beautiful scenery?" Yu Dong laughed.

"Yeah. Even without flowers, the gorgeous greenery can make people feel refreshed and happy." Xia Feng lamented.

"I visited Beijing once, when it was poplar season." Yu Dong recalled. "I would ride my bike and go through the streets and alleys, the poplars tall and proud as far as the eye can see."

Xia Feng could imagine this, and suddenly thought that it was regrettable that Shanghai didn't have many of these tall poplar trees.

"Did you think about what kind of plants you wanted?" Xia Feng asked.

"Well~~ I thought that I'd buy some hanging orchids, some green radish, a few brightly colored flowers." Yu Dong said, excited. "When I traveled around Europe, I saw a lot of beautiful flowers on people's balconies. We can put some tables and chairs on ours and sunbathe together, or read books, drink tea, that would be nice.

"Do you like to travel?" Xia Feng could tell that Yu Dong had been to many places and seen many things.

"Un." Before her rebirth, Yu Dong would give herself a vacation every year. Even if she ended up alone, she had wanted to travel to every single beautiful corner of the world.

"When work dies down a little we should go together." Xia Feng suggested, realizing that he had never traveled with Yu Dong.

Yu Dong smiled and asked: "When has the hospital not been busy?"

Xia Feng was stunned, it seemed that the hospital really was constantly busy. Even today's day off needed to be specially approved by Director Zhong.

Touching his nose, Xia Feng awkwardly said: "We can always make time."

Although his words weren't well thought out, Yu Dong was still pleased with Xia Feng's proposal.

Yu Dong wasn't really a young girl in her twenties. She was someone who was used to do things alone, someone who was independent and a strong personality. Yu Dong had the mature and gentle soul of a 30-year-old woman.

"There's a lot of places I want to go to, but there's only one place I will always want to come back to." Because they were walking quite close to each other, Yu Dong needed to look up to lock eyes with Xia Feng.

The mischevious sunshine once again traveled past the leaves and fell on Yu Dong's face, and the slight breeze lifted her hair, making Xia Feng's previously calm heart tremble.

Xia Feng thought that he understood what Yu Dong was trying to say and their interlocked fingers tightened together, like they could never be separated.

Their journey was a little far, but soon the two arrived at the flower market. The market was filled with a wide variety of plants, making Yu Dong excited.

Yu Dong happily looked around her: On the west was some bright sunflowers, the east held some bamboo; she even saw some hydrangeas peeking through, it was as if all the flowers bloomed this spring.

"Ah, there's even some Japanese creepers over there." Yu Dong cried out, pointing towards a creeper.

"If we planted some back home, our landlord's going to come for us." Xia Feng thought about the possibility of planting creepers in their balcony and couldn't help flinching.

"I was just saying." Yu Dong laughed. "When I was a junior in high school, there was these ivy growing in the back of my school. I never knew the name of the ivy, but found out afterward when I read some article. I had always wanted to plant Japanese creepers in my house and wait until summer for it to climb all over the wall."

"But at that time, there were more snakes than ants in our village. My mother said that there could be snakes hidden in the creepers and I ended up becoming too afraid to plant some." Yu Dong said, her head tilted to one side.

"Creepers are unlikely to grow in residential areas. When we get older and move to the suburbs, we can buy a house with a yard and plant some." Xia Feng said.

"When we get old?" Yu Dong blinked, then asked, "We haven't even had our wedding yet but why do I feel like an old wife already? I guess you're an even older husband now?"

"What nonsense are you spouting?" Xia Feng knocked on Yu Dong's head.

"Why hit me," Yu Dong crouched with her hands on her head, "Don't you want to grow old with me?"

A florist nearby looked at the pair with a kind smile. Xia Feng noticed and was somewhat embarrassed as he dragged Yu Dong along.

Yu Dong didn't feel embarrassed as they continued to browse the florist's stand, instead sticking out her tongue towards Xia Feng.

"Hehe...what old wife, all I see is a newly married couple." The florist laughed. "An old husband and wife would be like my wife and I. We squabble and criticize each other constantly, you youngsters are too lovey-dovey."

"Cough...boss, please ring these up." As someone with an introverted personality, Xia Feng doesn't usually do public displays of affection.

The florist knew that they were embarrassed, so he happily settled their bill and handed Yu Dong a small potted plant containing two beautiful red sunflowers.

Because they bought a lot of plants, Yu Dong intended to look for some wooden shelves online to decorate the balcony. Therefore, most of the plants they bought would be delivered instead, the two people only taking back the pot of sunflowers today.

After having dinner in a mall, Yu Dong suddenly felt like watching a movie, so they bought tickets and waited nearby.

Xia Feng looked around at the couples coming and going and saw that many were wearing matching couple's outfits. He secretly glanced at Yu Dong and thought that she would probably like things like this.

"Should we buy one too?"

"What?" Yu Dong was puzzled.

"Couple's outfits." Xia Feng clarified.

Yu Dong only then noticed the clothes of the couples around them. Some had the same colored shirts, one had the same cartoon character on their shirts. With a raised eyebrow, Yu Dong commented: "How childish ah."

"Oh." Xia Feng suddenly felt a little disappointed.

"Wait a bit, I prefer parent-child matching outfits." Yu Dong laughed.

Xia Feng's eyes turned bright, his disappointment instantly blown away.

The movie was about to start soon. Xia Feng left Yu Dong at the ticket gate to buy some popcorn and cola.

At this time, Allan, who had just finished watching a film premiere, saw Yu Dong waiting next to the ticket gates. Surprised, Allan turned to his assistant and said a few words, letting them go on ahead. Then with a polite smile, he approached Yu Dong.

"Miss Yu."

"Oh?" Yu Dong was also surprised to see Allan. "You're also out to watch a movie?"

"I was coming out of a premiere." Allan laughed.

Yu Dong nodded, no wonder there were a lot of fans holding posters outside.

"Right, Bloody Dream already premiered abroad, and the box office was very good." Allan suddenly said, "I never had the chance to thank you."

Bloody Dream was the movie by Qin Hui, the teenager with the nightmares. Because of its content, it could only be shown abroad. But hearing that the box office results were good, Yu Dong became happy: "Why thank me, you should be thankful for your own wisdom and insight."

"What wisdom, it's obvious you forced it on me." Allan joked.

"It's not like you lost money."

"No, I didn't lose, but I did gain a big profit." Allan said, "So to thank you for giving me such a big golden goose, I wanted to give you a 1% dividend."

"Me?" Yu Dong was shocked.

"Yes. there wouldn't even be a film without you." Allan said.

"You can't know that. Besides, I did it purely to save him." Yu Dong laughed.

"But the result was you making me a fortune." Allan was very serious.

"...Must you give it to me?" Yu Dong blinked.

"Yes!"

"Its a lot of money!" Yu Dong carefully asked.

"Ought to be more than 'a lot'." Allan found Yu Dong's exaggerated expression a little funny.

"Then donate it for me." After a moment's hesitation, Yu Dong said this.

"Donate it?" It was Allan's turn to be surprised.

"Un." Yu Dong nodded, "Since I didn't do it for money in the first place, let it continue to be an act of goodwill."

Allan's heart was shocked; he didn't think he would hear such an answer.

"Your friend?" Xia Feng who had bought popcorn had come back and saw Yu Dong talking to someone, so he nodded towards Allan politely.

Yu Dong reached out to take the cola out of Xia Feng's hands as she said: "This is Allan, the general manager of OM Entertainment. My husband, Xia Feng."

"Hello!" Xia Feng nodded again.

Allan looked at Yu Dong in shock: "You're married?"

Yu Dong smiled as she shrugged her shoulders.

Allan was astonished but nevertheless, he politely shook hands with Xia Feng: "I won't continue to bother you two."

"I'll handle the dividend thing for you." Allan rushed to say his goodbyes and was already leaving as he said this.

"Let's go in." Yu Dong smiled at Xia Feng.

"Are you very familiar with that person just now?" Xia Feng couldn't help but ask as they followed the crowd.

"Not really, a friend of a friend of a stranger." Yu Dong took a sip of the cola as she answered.

"That's good." Xia Feng remembered the way that person looked at Yu Dong and was a little thankful Yu Dong's expression wasn't the same.

"Huh?" Yu Dong was puzzled.

"It's nothing, Cinema 3 is over there." Xia Feng motioned.

There may be more than one person in this world that likes you, but I was the lucky man that met you first.
